Katya & Matvey Lapin
Since its 2003 debut, Duo Amabile has presented violin and piano recitals to enthusiastic audiences throughout the United States. Married since 2004, Matvey and Katya Lapin bring to their collaborations virtuosity, enthusiasm, and striking passion. Their repertoire ranges from eighteenth to twenty-first century music, and includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Bartok, among many others. Equally at ease with the standard repertoire, the Duo’s offerings range from Rachmaninov to Arvo Part, and include contemporary works especially written for them.
Popular with young audiences, they present Lecture-Performances and Workshops in conjunction with their concerts. Currently, Duo Amabile performs extensively throughout the country. In 2007-2010 they have presented cyclical concerts, including all the violin sonatas of Beethoven and Brahms.
A sought-after violinist Matvey Lapin enjoys his free-lance career both as an orchestra musician as well as chamber and solo artist. While frequently collaborating with Indianapolis Baroque, Fort Wayne Symphony Orchestras, Mr Lapin’s solo and chamber collaborations include many distinguished artists, among which are Stanly Ritchie, Nigel North, Joshua Bell, and others. Mr Lapin is a former member of the world-renowned Grammy Award nominated St Petersburg String Quartet. As a member of the quartet, he released a number of CD’s, as well as performed in major concert halls in the United States, Europe and Asia. Mr Lapin hails from St Petersburg, Russia, where he completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the St Petersburg State Conservatory, while also pursuing a Doctoral degree at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with minor in Baroque Violin.
An internationally accomplished, charismatic and inspiring pianist Katya Kramer-Lapin maintains her career as a solo pianist, chamber collaborator as well as an educator. Her concert venues include appearances at the UNESCO Headquarters (Paris, France), sponsored by John Paul Second as well as performances in major concert halls in Eastern Europe, international tour to Taiwan with violinist Kuan Cheng Lu, a member of New York Phillharmonic Orchestra, various chamber performances with the soloists of Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, often broadcasted on the National Public Radio. Currently Katya is pursuing her Artist Diploma at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she received her Masters; she holds her Bachelor’s degrees from Oberlin College Conservatory and Hochschule fur Musik in Cologne (Germany). Currently Katya Kramer-Lapin is on faculty at DePauw Universty School of Music as a Part-Time Assistant Professor of Piano and Staff-Accompanist.
In summer 2012, Matvey and Katya will be teaching at the Ameropa summer festival and school in Prague, Czech republic.
